Joe the Crow is a selfish bird who always chases Sugar and likes shiny objects. Like other animals, and unlike most humans, Joe can see the fairies. He even had a fight with Cinnamon and Basil. Joe is named by Phil.
Plot[]
Joe is first introduced when Sugar, Salt, and Pepper find an old bell in a nest in the hole of a rooftop from building nearby the town square, assuming the bell was a "Twinkle". Sugar happened to see him coming, and he dove in after her to try and grab the bell from her, catching Salt and Pepper by surprise. While the fairies try to escape, Joe chases Sugar down, Salt getting also caught in the path while Pepper gets left behind to try and follow after them. He chases them all above the town to the junkyard until Sugar and he fall into an old birdcage that gets jammed shut under a junked car. Joe becomes knocked out by the jolt, only moving slightly when Sugar made too much noise. After Saga rescued her, Phil came to find her and discovered the bell Sugar had dropped. Joe flew out of the cage and promptly swiped the bell out of his hand, Phil recognizing him and being the first to call him by name, explaining to Saga about him. In the manga adaption, Joe chases Sugar over to Phil's house instead of the junk yard. When Saga went to go rescue her, mentioning a crow, Phil asked if she meant Joe and explained about how he likes shiny things. Phil apologized to Saga after asking if Joe took something from her and offered to get it for her, but Saga insisted she do it herself so she could save Sugar (since Phil can't see her).
Once, Joe also had a run-in with the Elder when he was trying to talk to Ginger. Several other times, Joe chases Sugar, chasing her down during her searches for a Twinkle since she was looking for shiny objects, once chasing after her for a coin she found. Later, when Sugar was trying to practice her magic, she accidentally created a snowball that fell down through the tree she was practicing on. The snowball landed on an angry Joe's head, and he chased her down until she flew into Little Me for Saga's help, resulting in the coffee shop getting wrecked with broken dishes during the chase indoors until Mr. Luchino shoos him out. The damage it caused resulted in the start of one of Saga and Sugar's first biggest rifts in the series.
Later on, Joe tried pursuing a dove in the park that Lancelot, a turtle that Pepper wanted to help, was interested in befriending. Pepper said that Joe was saying to the dove, "Get out; this land is mine. How dare you enter into this side of the neighborhood," stating he was mad. Salt and Sugar try to dive at him, but miss and end up planting in the sandbox while the dove tried to escape. Joe chased after her until Lancelot got plunged into the air and shielded her from him, landing in a tree with her. Lancelot protected her from him as he pecked at his shell, until Lancelot kicked him and sent Joe flying helplessly into the next tree.
He later showed up on the day of the Muhlenburg Festival while Basil and Cinnamon were eating cookies they had taken from the festival up in a tree. The two fairies and him stared each other down very seriously before erupting into a full territorial dispute of him cawing at them while they shouted at him and used their ice and electrical magic on him. Miss Hanna happened to hear the commotion from Joe while she was at the festival with Lancelot, only to be confused by what she saw, being unable to see the fairies.
At the end of the series, Joe is seen by himself up in a tree, holding the same bell that he first chased Sugar over.
